Updates to the OpenAI Model Spec (August 18, 2026)
We’ve updated the Model Spec, our living document outlining intended model behavior.
This update adds additional clarity around principles on appropriate relational interactions for teens. It also clarifies how assistants should handle false or unsupported premises, removes outdated guidance for pre-reasoning models, adds a new section "Be clear about capabilities and limits", and makes a few other small changes and copy edits.
